Many immigrants worldwide are dreaming to obtain a Danish Passport. The Scandinavian country is one of the most developed in Europe. All this attracts the attention of not only investors but also ordinary people who are looking for a comfortable home.

Residence permit in Denmark

To come to Denmark, you first need to have a visa. It is a member of the Scandinavian Passport Union and Schengen and requires a Schengen visa or a special national visa to enter. A visa is issued for a different period and for a maximum of a year with a permit to stay in the Schengen countries for no more than 90 days in 180 days.

However, it should be said right away: neither a tourist nor a business visa allows you to come and deal with the issues of obtaining a residence permit. To do this, you must have other reasons, and if you are suspected of wanting to remain under a temporary visa, you will be punished, up to and including imprisonment. However, if you have come to the country, found a future employer, or studied the possibilities of starting a startup, then after leaving the country, you can begin the process of obtaining the appropriate permits.

If you already have a passport of a European country or a residence permit in the EU, then in the first case, you have every right to come and live/work in Denmark, and in the second – to stay up to 90 days in six months, as with a Schengen visa.

How to get a residence permit in Denmark?

There are enough ways to get a temporary residence permit in Denmark & Danish Passport: work visas, study, language training in the family, family reunification, refugee asylum, start-up organization.

Study

To obtain a residence permit as a student, it is necessary to find an educational institution in advance, enroll in it and obtain supporting documents. Only then will the authorities consider your request.

If you decide to get a doctorate and know the languages (English, German, Danish, Swedish, or Norwegian), plus a company pays for your education or you yourself are able to support your residence in the country, then you have the opportunity to get a residence permit.

The same applies to adolescents under 18 who came to live with a family for the sake of learning the language – the classical exchange system allows you to get a residence permit in Denmark.

Family reunification

Another way to get status in Denmark. Most often we are talking about spouses, children, whom it is quite simple to prove and bring. It is possible to relocate other family members – parents and grandparents to Denmark, but special conditions are required, for example, the need to help relatives who cannot take care of themselves.

By the way, if children are over 18 years old, then reunification is possible only in rare cases (illness, care, etc.).

Refugee status

Denmark allows refugee status to be obtained who needs protection under the United Nations Convention or in the event that a family member is in serious danger. In order to transfer their family / dependent persons, the holder of refugee status must spend at least 3 years in the country.

However, we all understand that due to the migration crisis in Europe, Denmark has seriously limited the program. It is possible to officially submit documents, but how quickly the request will be considered is unknown, besides, the success of this enterprise as a whole is in question.

Get a Danish Passport through work

Many consultants consider work to be the most realistic and fastest way to obtain a residence permit in Denmark. And although the requirements for almost all types of permits are high, it is really easier than looking for non-existent relatives or trying to use refugee status.

Read more: Residence permit in Denmark through work

Obtaining a residence permit in Denmark through business investment

There is a lot of information on the Internet about what is allowed to obtain a residence permit in case of opening a local business with a statutory fund of 50,000 euros and hiring local employees. Unfortunately, there is no such information on the official portal for foreigners. But for entrepreneurs who want to both invest and obtain a residence permit, there are two possible options.

The first option is to obtain permission as the organizer of the Startup. Everyone is interested in original and promising ideas, and if your project manages to interest the special commission, then the residence permit is yours.

The family is allowed to come with the applicant. However, you should understand that this program is not involved in sponsoring your idea – it will only allow you to use the infrastructure of Denmark for work. And already here you yourself look for investors, banks, employees, etc.

Moreover, you are also obliged to provide yourself and your family with a financial background on which you can live for 1 year. If you are arriving with your spouse, then the minimum need is 263,232 kroons, and if you are also with a child, then 306,516 kroons.

The second option, which seems to have created an opinion about business as a way to obtain a residence permit: is to create your own company and hire an employee in it. And having written out a salary of more than 50,000 euros per year and falling under the Pay Limit criterion, you will receive a residence permit.

Danish citizenship

It is allowed to obtain Danish citizenship for children born in Danny’s territory to Danish parents. You need to know the language at least at level 2, plus prove your “self-sufficiency” for 4.5 years out of the last 5. Previously, you needed only 2.5 out of 5.

If a person has committed crimes, then quarantine is required before entering citizenship – from 3 to 20 years, depending on the severity.

An amendment is to be considered shortly to allow applicants’ children to acquire citizenship with a parent. There is no such possibility yet.

The cost of the declaration is 1100 kroons.
