Citizens of Nordic nations such as Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden do not need work or resident permits to enter the country; they can simply enter. Family members from these countries are also welcome to visit Denmark.

Citizens of the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) do not need a visa to live, work, or study in Denmark. They must, however, adhere to the immigration laws of the Danish Immigration Service and the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration. All other citizens must apply for a visa that allows them to stay for 90 days in the country. A residency and work visa is required for those who plan to stay longer.

The Fast-Track Scheme, the Pay Limit Scheme, and the Positive List are the three most popular forms of work visas, however, there are many others. These are the most flexible alternatives, and they encompass a variety of visa kinds such as research, work authorization, and more.

Fast-track scheme

Under the Fast-track scheme, those enterprises accredited by the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment may be permitted to bring in highly trained people. The program is designed for larger companies who want highly-skilled foreign staff on a short-term basis. It includes both commercial and public businesses, as well as universities.

Every business intending to be certified must meet the following requirements:

The company must pay the correct fee

In general, the Danish company’s salary and working conditions must meet Danish norms. If the company is not a member of a collective bargaining agreement, it must indicate that it satisfies this requirement.

The Danish firm must employ at least 20 full-time workers.

The business must not be embroiled in a legal labor dispute.

Participation in a guiding meeting at the Danish Agency for Labor Market and Recruitment is required.

The Pay Limit Scheme

The Pay Limit system is intended for high-income persons with annual wages exceeding a certain amount. DKK 375,000 is the current minimal barrier. Individuals participating in this program must achieve this annual income criterion, which includes any unpaid vacations. Any vacation pay earned during one income year but paid out the following year cannot be included in the calculation of the first income year’s yearly pay.

Duration of permit: 4 years (for an indefinite job contract). Extensions are permitted.

The period of the permit will be the same as the duration of the contract plus an additional 6 months for limited or temporary job contracts.

The Positive List

When a certain profession is experiencing a shortage of experts, it is placed on Positive List. Typical examples of common professions are: Engineers, doctors, medical consultants, auditors, and other professionals are examples.

Before being qualified to apply under this plan, applicants must meet the minimum educational qualifications listed on the list.

Duration of permit: 4 years (for an indefinite job contract). Extensions are permitted.

The period of the permit will be the same as the duration of the contract plus an additional 6 months for limited or temporary job contracts.

Requirements to obtain Denmark work visas

Nationals of the EU who intend to have a Denmark working visa must present the following documents:

A passport or national ID

An accurate passport-size photo

A completed application

Documentation on grounds for residence as a worker

Other citizens will be required to meet specific criteria and submit certain papers as part of the application procedure. They’ll need proof of payment of the visa cost, a copy of their passport, a power of attorney document, and, among other things, a job contract or formal job offer, proof of educational certificates and qualifications, as well as Danish permission for regulated occupations, may be required for some visas.

Denmark is at the top of the list of prominent European Union countries that welcome qualified people from around the world.
