The cost of living for an individual, covering basic areas of life, in Lithuania, is about €1000 which can be less if two or more people stay together. To assist you in making an informed decision about your trip, this article analyzes the cost of living in Lithuania.

Real estate

The majority of the monthly living costs are related to rent. In Vilnius, a private room in a shared apartment may be rented for as low as €250. In Vilnius, rent for a one-bedroom apartment begins at about €600, but Kaunas rents for €450 or even €300 outside of the city center. If you like the city, Klaipeda is a more affordable alternative than Vilnius and Kaunas. Some people fantasize about living in the country, and for those with the patience to seek, there is still inexpensive real estate available.

Food costs

The cost of living mostly includes the price of food. The price of food is typically affordable in Lithuania, and fish, dairy, and local products play major roles in the local cuisine. The average monthly price of food for one person at Lithuanian supermarkets is around €150. This comprises food essentials including fruits, vegetables, and animal products. Your tastes, calorie requirements, and frugalness will determine the ultimate price. The price of food for two individuals is around 10% less, or €270. And around 15% less for a family of four with kids – €510. For one individual, a monthly excursion to a budget restaurant costs roughly €10. In a midrange restaurant, a complete three-course supper for two costs roughly €40.

Utilities

You should include the cost of utilities while budgeting for your living costs in Lithuania. Basic utilities (electricity, water, heating, and waste disposal) for one or two persons in an 85m2 apartment in Vilnius cost about €160. In cities other than the capital, this is even more affordable. Up to 100 mb/s, the monthly cost of the internet may be as low as €8.90 plus a €5 installation charge. One of the cheapest and fastest internet services in the world is available in Lithuania. Costs for mobile communications are also very low. You may get a monthly plan from Telia beginning at €3 or an O2 prepaid SIM card with 10GB good for 30 days for €25.

Transportation

Some of Eastern Europe’s most stunning roads are said to exist in Lithuania. Four-lane roads connect Vilnius, Klaipeda, Kaunas, Panevys, and Palanga across the whole nation. From Vilnius in the extreme east to Klaipeda in the far west, a bus ticket would cost around €10; public transportation is reasonably priced. When traveling between major cities, bus tickets may be purchased at the bus station, online, or straight from the bus driver. Buses between the major cities run frequently, and gas rates are comparable to those in Western European nations. Vilnius-Kaunas, Vilnius-iauliai, iauliai-Panevys, iauliai-Klaipeda, and Vilnius-Klaipeda are a few of the cities linked by train. There are three passenger airports, but they solely handle flights outside of Lithuania; no domestic flights are operated there. The small but well-established road network ensures quick travel. Trolleybuses and buses make up the public transit networks of Vilnius and Kaunas. In urban and suburban regions where there are few or no public transportation options, licensed private bus companies exist. The average monthly cost of public transportation in Lithuania is estimated to be 20 Litai (about $6) for students and 100 Litai (around $29) for adults.

You may also find these articles helpful

Moving to Lithuania: Full relocation guide

Working in Lithuania as an expat

How to retire in Lithuania: the golden years

Real estate, groceries, electricity costs, the cost of mobile communications, and Internet costs are the primary factors you should think about before relocating to Lithuania.
