Ambassador

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary posted to Spain at the Republic of People's Republic of Bangladesh embassy is His Excellency (H.E.) Mr. Hassan Mahmood Khandker

Mr. Khandker retired from active service in January 2015. Considering his outstanding contribution and brilliant career, the Government of Bangladesh appointed him as Ambassador of Bangladesh to Spain in October 2015.

He represented Bangladesh Police at various conferences in the USA, the UK, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Hong Kong, Oman, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Australia and Vietnam. Mr. Khandker received the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) and President Police Medal (PPM), two highest national awards in the field. Under his dynamic leadership, Bangladesh Police achieved numerous accolades.

He is a senior research fellow, working on global terrorism, at Jahangir Nagar University, Bangladesh. He attended, among others, graduation course as Trainer of UK Police, the UK; high level workshop on Indicators of Development, Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, the USA; seminar on Senior Crisis Management, Virginia, the USA; seminar on Senior Crisis Management, Louisiana State University, the USA; the Global Policing Summit on Terrorism and the Prevention of the Radicalization of Youth, France. He participated in the Interpol Annual General Assemblies in Qatar, Morocco, Italy and Monaco.

Mr. Khandker worked in the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Bosnia & Herzegovina for about three years. He held important positions at the UN Headquarters in Sarajevo and was decorated with the most sought-after UN Peace Medal.

During his outstanding career over 31 years in public service, Mr. Khandker held various important positions including Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion, a specialized force aimed at combatting terrorism and the Inspector General of Police (IGP). He is the longest serving Inspector General of Bangladesh Police.
