What you need to do.

When you are staying in new country for three months, as an EU national, you can’t apply for a residence document that confirms that you have a right to live there. 

Only after three months that you have lived in your new country, you can register, it can be done in the town hall or police station. 

Documents that are required for registration.

You need to have a valid ID card or passport. Employees need certification or confirmation of recruitment from your employer that you are employed. 

If you are self-employed, you need proof that you have self-employed status. 

Pensioners need to have proof of comprehensive health insurance. And they need proof that they can support themselves without needing income support. 

Students need to have proof of enrolment at an approved educational establishment. They need to have proof of comprehensive health insurance. And last, you need proof that you can support yourself without needing income support. 

What happens after you register?

After you register, you will get registration certificate. The certificate confirms your right to live in country you have chosen. 

Registration certificate should be issued immediately and it will cost no more than identity card. 

The certificate should be valid indefinitely, it doesn’t need to be renewed, but if you change your address it needs to be reported to the local authorities. 

If you are required to register, you can be punished for not doing so, but you can continue to live in the country and you cannot be expelled. 

In some countries you will have to carry your registration certificate and identity card or passport at all times. If you don’t have them on you, you can be punished but not expelled. 

If you are self-employed and you go to town hall to register and they tell you that you can’t work until you have registration certificate. It’s not correct, if you are an EU national you can work as self-employed without waiting for registration certificate. 

Authorities must give you registration certificate immediately when asked.
