Ambassador

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary posted to Austria at the Japan embassy is His Excellency (H.E.) Mr. Dato' Ganeson Sivagurunathan

Dato’ Ganeson Sivagurunathan is the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Austria and Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations in Vienna. He is also accredited to the Slovak Republic.

He was in early start at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dato’ Ganeson served as Assistant Secretary for South Asia Division in 1995, Assistant Secretary for Environment Division in 2000 and subsequently as Principle Assistant Secretary in 2002. He also served as Undersecretary for Multilateral Political Affairs Division in 2008, Africa Division and East Asia Division in 2015.

H.E. Dato’ Ganeson’s diplomatic assignments included postings at the Embassy of Malaysia in Papua New Guinea in 1996, followed by postings in Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations in New York in 2004 and as Ambassador at the Embassy of Malaysia in Santiago, Chile in 2011.

About the embassy

The mission has characteristics of both a bilateral and also multilateral mission. In its bilateral capacity, it acts as the official representative of the Malaysian government in enhancing bilateral co-operation and establishing close rapport with the governments of Austria and the Slovak Republic.

As the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the Vienna, it is one of the three posts which represent Malaysia's interest in the United Nations system.

The mission deals the following Agencies:

  • International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA);
  • United Nations Office for Drug and Crime (UNODC);
  • United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO);
  • Office of Outer Space Affairs (OOSA);
  • United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL)
