Visa to Iceland

A Iceland's visa is a document that allows its holder to enter Iceland and reside for some time in the country.

Iceland has the following 7 types of visa:

  • Airport transit visa
  • Tourist visa
  • Visitor visa
  • Business visa
  • Cultural, sports or religious event visa
  • Medical treatment visa
  • Long stay visa

It must be noted that some of these visa sub-types can be included into a broader category, and they are different in the sense that they require different documents to apply for.

Fees

Depending on your chosen visa type, the processing fees may range from 35 to 60 EUR. Please not that this may be subject to change due to individual circumstances.

Documents needed

When applying for a visa to Iceland, in most cases you will need the following documents, depending on the type or sub-type of visa:

  • Any visa
    • visa application form
    • 2 passport-format photos
    • passport that is no older than 10 years, valid for at least 3 months after the planned date of leaving the country, and at least 2 pages for visas
    • copies of any older visas
    • medical insurance
    • general travel plan
    • proof of sufficient means for sustenance during the travel (around EUR 29 per day and at least EUR 145)
    • proof of accommodation, e.g. a hotel
    • proof of civil status, e.g. a birth certificate or a marriage certificate
  • Any visa for minors
    • birth certificate
    • copies of IDs or passports of the parents or legal guardians
    • authorization from the parents or legal guardians, allowing the minor to travel with another supervisor (if applicable)
  • Transit visa
    • proof of onward travel, e.g. a plane ticket with the final destination
  • Business visa
    • letter of explanation from the sending organization, stating the purpose and the general plan of the trip
    • letter of confirmation from a local company, stating the purpose of the visit
  • Cultural visa
    • letter of explanation from the sending organization
    • letter of confirmation from the local organization
    • in case of a travelling team/troupe/crew/etc.: the list of participants
  • Medical treatment
    • letter from the applicant's medical institution with the treatment confirmation
    • document with treatment confirmation from the hosting medical institution
    • proof of payment for the treatment
    • proof that the applicant is able to cover any additional medical expenses that may arise
    • proof of correspondence between the applicant's and the hosting medical institutions

Photo requirements

The photo you submit with the application documents must meet certain criteria:

  • taken no more than 6 months prior to submission
  • 3,5 cm х 4,5 cm in size
  • taken in color
  • has a light background
  • facing forward
  • facial features clearly visible (i.e. nothing covers the face)
  • no tinted eyeglasses or decorational headwear
  • neutral facial expression
  • unifrom lighting
  • no ink or other marks
  • no editing

Iceland's visa and Schengen area

Instead of Iceland's visa, you can enter the country with a Schengen visa. You can use Iceland's visa to enter the Schengen area.
